The national study tour conducted each year for the students of IDPT- from Sarvajanik College of Engineering and Technology, which comprises of second and third year students of Architecture & Interior Design to study various historical places with housing and institution typology across the country. This year, the venture took place from 16 to 21st December, where 59 students total from B.Arch II and III, B.ID-II and D.ID-II students were taken to Jaipur, Rajasthan to study their unique typology in various sectors. Students were asked to find out unique specimens of houses with heritage value to understand cultural and social aspects responding to the built spaces. Jaipur being India’s first planned city in grid iron pattern with dedicated blocks gives a peek to look inside the overall planning methodology and architectural interventions which it had gone through over the centuries. To keep the heritage architectural essence of Jaipur intact various development and heritage trusts have stipulated a detailed guideline which are to be followed for all present and future architectural endeavors in the old city. Though chaotic and untidy in its own character, Jaipur reveals its beauty with its streets, markets, colors, architecture and their royal edifices. The royal rendezvous The team Students were accompanied and guided by six faculties Prof.Nehal Desai, Prof. Mehul Patel and Ar. Sharvil Mahuvagara, Mr. Nitin Sondelia, Ms. Hetal Shah & Ms. Umesh Raut (Attendant). The study tour was a wholesome experience where study and exposure came together to make the students of architecture aware of the varied cultures outside our city and the state. The tour completed on a positive note bringing back students with new appreciation of city design and its unique architecture. The second-year students documented the traditional house patterns and settlements of the old city of Jaipur. This brings them closer to the understanding of the applications of traditional architecture and their daily lifestyle. The culture embodied by the city is reflected within its people with pride. Students of Bachelor of Architecture, Bachelor of Interior Design and Diploma in Interior Design worked together as a team to decipher the architectural language of the place with residential housing patterns like the Havelis, multifamily houses, linear structured houses etc. The Third year students of B.Arch III were engaged in understanding and exploring the institutional scale architecture of old city of Jaipur. They studied ancient temple complexes, educational institutes, and social institutes etc. which were part of the overall fabric of the well planned city of Jaipur. Chaotic streets, regulated street facades, domes and chhatris were essential elements of Rajasthani Architecture which evolved during a period of time. Jaipur takes you through a wonderful experience wherein one indulges in the various paradigms of culture. What you learn from the people is so much more valuable as they teach you to be happy and content with the life you lead. You see them going about their daily lives within the built environment created by them using colors, traditional elements and their indigenous knowledge of the crafts.
