Study Tour Brief : As a part of academic curriculum students of B. Arch -II & B. Arch – III, Faculty of Architecture SCET, Surat had undergone a related study program by visiting Nasik in December 2019. Total number of 32 students and 5 faculties have visited Nasik from B.Arch – II & B.Arch – III have done a documentation exercise for 5 days. Aim : The primary aim of study tour was to make students understand traditional community housing pattern, typology & Institutional Buildings which were built in traditional construction technology in context of Nasik. Objective : Group of students were divided into various clusters of the city to identify different typologies to understand the core of various traditional statements. Students documented Girl’s School of Nasik, Collector Building of Nasik, Temple complex and Residential settlements around the same. Location : The city located about 190 km north of state capital Mumbai, is called the "Wine Capital of India" as half of India’s vineyards and wineries are located in Nashik. Nasik lies in the northern part of Maharashtra state at 584 m (1,916 ft)from the mean sea level which gives it ideal temperature variation, particularly in winters. About Nasik : Nasik is the third largest city of Maharashtra and a very long district place. For Hindus it’s a very pies and religious place due to river Godavari. It can be also called kashi of Maharashtra. Right in the center of city, the two historical site was identified for the study and documentation namely collector office and girls school. Activity Conducted : In this study tour 2nd Year students have studies settlements of traditional Nashik and surroundings of the same where as 3rd year students have studied Court Building and Girl’s school as a part of academic curriculum. Both year have visited to few renowned projects of Ar. Sanjay Patil and visited his office for a very informative session with architect himself.
