Shabridham

Location: Shabridham, Dist: Dang, Gujarat. Dandakaranya of epic Ramayan was nothing but Dang District of Gujarat State. The historical District is the only District of State with dense forest. Total 311 villages are covered by Dang. The Dangs district is situated between the parallels of latitude 20o 33' and 21o 5' and the meridians of longitude 73o 27' and 73o 57'. The length from north to south of this territory is about 59 kms. and from east to west about 50 kms. It is bounded in the North by Surat and Dhule district of Maharashtra State, in the east by Nasik district of Maharashtra State and West by Valsad District. Shabridham is said be place where shri ram(an hindu god), while his journey through forest, met with shabri, who was a devotee of him, This Place is located in subir village of dang district, A temple has been constructed here. Introduction Study tours are an integral part of the educational experience for students in the Faculty of Architecture. Core concept behind this Rural Study Tour for 1st Year Architecture Students is understanding by living, studying, documenting and designing buildings in rural areas. These buildings would be the result of collaborating with the local community directly. Students would spent significant time within the same community; they are working with, understanding the context first hand. Activity Conducted 8 study groups have to research on pre define different 8 study themes like-1.Myths about Traditional Buildings, 2.Performance, Materiality and Agency , 3.Houses and People, 4.Culture & Architecture, 5.Architecture & Landscape, 6.Light & Ventilation in vernacular Architecture, 7.Material & Construction in vernacular Architecture, 8.Adaptability in vernacular Architecture. Students stayed in tribal dwellings during day time and conducted measure drawing study of wood and mud structures of settlements for research on given theme.. Other activities In spare time interactive activities were conducted and during return journey students were visited Shabridham Temple complex designed by FOA, SCET.
