Overview:
The Institute of Design, Planning & Technology is pleased to announce an expert lecture on ”Master Planning Approach - Case of GIFT City, Gujarat”. The lecture was organised by special effort of Prof. Vishal Shah, Pro-dean, IDPT. This lecture is specifically organized for 47 students of 1st & 2nd Year of M.Plan.(URP) & M.Arch.(UD) to provide them with insights into the dynamic field of Master Planning on Macro Scale.
Objective:
The lecture was delivered by a distinguished expert in urban planning, architecture, or a related field, who possesses in-depth knowledge and firsthand experience in the planning and execution of GIFT City project. The focus of the lecture will be on analyzing the master planning approach adopted in the development of GIFT City, highlighting key principles, strategies, challenges, and outcomes.

- Introduction to GIFT City: Overview of the vision, objectives, and significance of GIFT City as a model for smart urban development.
- Master Planning Principles: Examination of the fundamental principles guiding the master planning process for GIFT City, including sustainability, connectivity, livability, and economic vitality with Development Regulations.
- Case Study Analysis: In-depth analysis of the master planning approach implemented in GIFT City, showcasing specific design elements, infrastructure development, zoning regulations, and governance structures.
- Lessons Learned: Insights into the successes, challenges, and lessons learned from the planning and implementation phases of GIFT City, with relevance to future urban development initiatives.

Speaker Details:
The Lecture is conducted by Mr. Niki Shah, Director at HCP. Niki Shah is an architect and urban designer with more than 15 years of experience. He studied B.Arch. at M.S. University, Vadodara and M.Sc. in Urbanism at TU Delft. He was awarded the prestigious Netherlands Fellowship (HSP Huygens) Programme Scholarship for studies at Delft.
Niki leads the Urban Design studio and mentors a multidisciplinary team of architects, urban designers and planners. With an eye for detail and a deep understanding of urban development issues, he brings a unique direction to the practice. Significant projects that he has worked on include Central Vista Redevelopment, Delhi; Amochhu Riverfront and Township Development, Bhutan; Sabarmati Riverfront Development, Ahmedabad; and Mumbai Port Complex Master Plan.
Niki is also involved in photography and graphic design for HCP’s publication and outreach activities. He also engages with universities as a resource person, jury member and thesis guide for research and design projects in an urban context.
Format:
The lecture will be conducted in a seminar format with a presentation followed by a Q&A session. Students are encouraged to actively participate, ask questions, and engage in discussions to make the most out of this learning opportunity.
